Decisive Moments
The Decisive Moment, Henri Cartier-Bresson’s famous quote and its elitist claims for photography stands diametrically opposed to today’s continual democratisation of the medium.
As a result of the rapid development of digital photography using cameras and mobile phones, today more images are being captured than ever before. The internet with its platforms such as Flickr or Facebook are being used to disseminate these images by the billion, like a big-bang. In consequence, in view of this current flood of images, a further quote from Bresson appears to be obsolete: "A good photo is one that you look at for more than a second."
The series pushes the originators of these images
into the spotlight, just as they are absorbed in their own personal
decisive moment.
